Why Your Business Angels

Why This Level of Support Is More Financially Accessible

Experienced financial and restructuring support can be expensive — particularly when it requires senior professional time, detailed financial analysis and continuing review.

We wanted to find a way to deliver that level of attention to the Australian business owners who need it, without making the cost itself another problem for the business.

So we built a different delivery model.

1 More Than 31 Years of Experience

Experience creates efficiency.

After more than 31 years working with Australian businesses under financial pressure, we are not starting each engagement wondering where to look. We recognise patterns. We know the questions to ask. We know that a reported profit doesn’t necessarily mean there is cash.

We know to examine the Balance Sheet, debtors, creditors, ATO accounts, employee entitlements, loans, director accounts, margins and the movement of cash through the business. And we know that the numbers often lead us to questions about pricing, quoting, customers, productivity, staffing or management behaviour.

Experience helps us get to the important questions faster.

2 We Built the Systems Around the Work

Over the years, we have developed our own financial analysis, reporting and review systems. That means we don’t need to recreate the process from the beginning for every business.

We have structured ways of establishing the financial truth, identifying issues, recording actions, measuring results and reviewing what happens next. The circumstances of every business are different.

That consistency reduces unnecessary duplication and allows more of our time to be spent understanding what the information actually means.

The discipline of how we examine them does not need to be.

3 Technology and AI Do More of the Heavy Lifting

Technology has fundamentally changed what is possible.

We have invested heavily in AI-supported analysis and internal systems that help us process financial information, compare periods, identify movements, prepare analysis and bring important changes to our attention. Work that once required many hours of manual preparation can increasingly be completed far more efficiently.

Technology does not decide what a director should do. It gives our experienced people better information, more regularly, so that their time can be spent asking questions, challenging results and working with the client.

AI helps us process the information. Experience helps us interpret it.

4 We Start With Accounting Truth

Through our accounting firm, Fresh Numbers, we have the capability to work directly with the financial records underlying the business. That is important.

If the accounts are not current or reliable, our first task is to correct them. Once they are right, we don’t throw that work away and start another consulting process. The same financial information becomes the foundation for ongoing measurement, reporting and decision-making.

That creates both efficiency and continuity.

Do the accounting work once. Then keep using the truth it produces.

5 We Work as a Team

This work does not need to be performed entirely by one senior adviser charging for every hour.

We have built a team of nearly 50 people across Your Business Angels and Fresh Numbers, supported by defined processes and senior oversight. Different parts of the work can be completed by the people and systems best suited to them.

Financial information can be prepared and reconciled. Data can be processed. Reports can be produced. Actions can be tracked. Senior people can then concentrate their time where experience and judgement matter most.

The right work, at the right level, with senior experience where it adds the greatest value.

6 Regular Review Becomes Affordable

This is perhaps the most important difference.

A business under financial pressure doesn’t only need advice on day one.

It needs somebody asking on day seven:

  • What happened?
  • Did you do what we agreed?
  • Did it work?
  • What do the numbers tell us now?

Historically, that level of continuing professional attention could become prohibitively expensive for a smaller business.

Our systems, technology and team structure allow us to provide regular financial feedback and continuing involvement much more efficiently.

That is what makes our feedback loop practical:

  1. Truth
  2. Decision
  3. Action
  4. Measurement
  5. Correction
  6. New Truth

Not once. Repeatedly.

7 Built for Australian SMEs

This matters to us.

The level of financial discipline, analysis and continuing support required by a business under pressure should not be something only a large company can contemplate.

Small and medium Australian businesses employ people, support families, train apprentices, buy from other businesses and contribute enormously to their communities.

Their problems may involve smaller numbers than those of a major corporation.

They are not smaller problems to the people who own them.

We wanted to bring serious financial analysis, experienced oversight and continuing business support within reach of those directors.

That objective has influenced everything we have built — our accounting systems, our technology, our team structure and the way we deliver the program.

Accessible Does Not Mean Cutting Corners

Making the process more financially accessible does not mean removing work that matters.

It means trying to remove duplication, unnecessary manual processing and expensive professional time being used for work that technology or another member of the team can perform effectively.

Where specialist legal, insolvency or other professional advice is required, that expertise remains important and may involve separate costs.

Our model is designed to make the ongoing financial analysis, implementation, measurement and business support more accessible. That is where we believe we can make a substantial difference.

Thirty-one years of experience. A team of nearly 50. Better systems. AI-supported analysis. Regular human involvement.

Not cheaper by doing less. More accessible because we have learned how to do more, more efficiently.
